Logs

One view for build, deploy, runtime and activity logs, with filters, search and follow.

The Logs view of a service merges four sources in one timeline, sorted by timestamp.

SourceWhat it isWhere it lives
buildImage build output of each deploymentStored by the panel
deployDeployment steps: pull, start, healthcheck, swapStored by the panel
runtimeThe container's stdout and stderrStays on the server; read on demand with docker logs
activityWho changed what on the service, and whenStored by the panel

Runtime logs are never copied to the panel in bulk. Each page reads a bounded window from the server, so a stopped or unreachable server only hides the runtime source; the other three still load and the view says which source is unavailable.

Filters and limits

  • Time range: the last 15 minutes by default, at most 24 hours. A wider range is cut to its newest 24 hours and the page is marked as truncated.
  • Level: info, warn or error. A level keeps entries at that level or above.
  • Search: plain text, at most 200 characters, case-insensitive.
  • Page size: 200 lines by default, at most 1000. When a range has more than one page, the view shows the newest lines; narrow the range or add a search to see older ones.
  • A line longer than 8 KiB is cut and marked as truncated.
  • Follow streams new lines as they arrive. Too many open streams for one service or account is refused with RUNTIME_LOG_FOLLOW_LIMIT_REACHED; close one and try again.

stdout and stderr are each in order, but Docker does not guarantee their order relative to each other, so two lines from different streams with the same timestamp can swap.

Secrets in logs

Every line is redacted with the service's secret values before it leaves the panel, for every source. A secret printed by the application shows as [REDACTED:<type>].

Errors

CodeMeaning
LOG_QUERY_INVALIDA source, time range, level or search term is not valid.
LOG_SOURCE_UNAVAILABLEA source could not be read, usually because the server is unreachable.
RUNTIME_LOG_FOLLOW_LIMIT_REACHEDToo many live log streams are open.
